Coding and Missed Opportunities

2025-04-20

For many years now, I have decided that I did not need or want to take any time or spend any effort on web design. After all, WordPress exists and I didn't need to care about keeping my coding skills up to date or active, right? I could just click a few things, get a template, and everything was done. Maybe a little tweaking was needed but it could all be done with the no-code interface; who needs hand coding anymore? All rise the no-code supremacy!

Well, how about no? There's something that brings me a lot of joy when it comes to figuring out problems by hand and adapting solutions to my unique needs. There's something that feels like it used to in the 90s when I was connected to the machine in a way where it was doing what I wanted and I was giving it the care and attention it needed to perform at its best. It's a kind of magic that we can do, even in the modern age - an expression of our will and imagination.

I think that I'm very glad for deciding to give coding a chance again because it's reignited something in me that I thought was gone forever. And it makes me think - if there are things that all y'all used to love to do but gave up for whatever reason, might it be worth trying them again? You never know what you'll find that you still love and may be quietly missing without even knowing it.
